EDNA LAWRENCE RENOVATION, PROVIDENCE RI
The Edna Lawrence Nature Lab at Rhode Island School of Design is a unique resource library that allow students to research and reference taxonomy items. The Nature Lab resides in one of the oldest buildings on campus causeing some major disconnects between the outside RISD community and what exists inside. To solve the issue of disconnect my group (Maria Benanti and Marianna Bender) and I studied movement within living things. We found three types (propusionary, pedal, and point) that depict the intervention within the space. To begin, a main central staircase allows for propulsionary movement throughout the floors. Second, sight lines are made by the furniture layout throughout the space allowing pedal movement on each floor. Lastly, a large glass display case allows for point to point movement in the Nature Lab and creates a new clasification in the spcimen display.
