The Silos of Montreal Harbor, located at the foot of old Montreal, rule the cityscape. The impenetrable concrete wall of Silo No. 5 (the tallest and largest in the constellation) has forever been an indicator of the city limit, dominating the arrival and departure of the city visitors and inhabitants alike. This studio investigated the potential means to transform these complex series of built forms into dwelling units for the 21st century. The investigation of the Montreal silos was focused on two sets of outcomes: 1) Developing and transforming the interiors of the silos to become truly livable environments and 2) Improving the connections between the silos and their extended surroundings.
